For integrators already working with HID, one of the most attractive elements of HODT is that at a time when everyone is watching costs, the solution allows them to leverage their installed base, as half the solu-
tion is already in their customers’ hands.
Integrators are “sitting on a gold mine,” said Jaroslav Barton, HID’s regional sales manager for Central, Eastern and Southern Europe. In this region alone, there are over 6mln HID cards in use, Barton pointed out, noting that selling up to just one percent of that kind of install
base would mean 60,000 clients, along with the opportunity that brings for offering premium support.
HODT is designed accelerate the convergence of physical and logical security, according to Kunz. A key point about HODT is that it tightens not just IT security, but security overall, because the card becomes the
key for accessing everything, he explained. On that principle, the system fosters what Petr Klupka, HID’s business development manager for logical access, called “remove card behavior.” To gain physical access to an area, a user must remove his card from the reader linked to his computer, automatically locking the computer. At the

same time, the system can be set up so that logical access is only granted after physical access confirmation that the appropriate user is actually in the building.
A new pricing model that centers around something HID calls a “credential credit,” which is linked to the card, makes the solutions an affordable alternative to the costly and time-consuming work of password resets, according to Klupka.
HID is taking the solution to market via three basic methods: the physical access control channel, logical access control integrators and a combination of the two.
Partners can find a variety of training and support for HODT from HID. The company is offering online training in the form of its free HID Academy (a prerequisite for selling HODT), as well as an intensive one-day on-site “Boot Camp” training and other on-site technical training, the completion of which results in official certification. Rounding out the company’s strategy for European dominance, Samsung will continue to emphasize and expand its multi-language support capabilities, including a new European Web site available in nine languages, which is scheduled for an April launch.
One other telling sign of Samsung’s bullishness on the European market was the announcement that it would actually be expanding its presence at IFSEC this year, investing in a bigger stand to accommodate more products. SSNE

development, but they also have partners around the world that can create particular applications or solutions.
While Neurotechnology doesn’t see VeriLook Surveillance limited to any one area of application, specific examples of possible deployments mentioned by the company include airport security, retail and law enforcement. “ Basically, anyone looking to optimize face recognition or implement face recognition in a situation that requires passive identification, we offer VeriLook Surveillance as the key,” said Naujikas.
